NORFOLK ASSOCIATION OF ARCHITECTS

REPORT OF THE MEETING ON MONDAY 9TH OCTOBER 2006

  1. PRESENT

There were eleven members present.

2.     PRESIDENT’S DIARY

Nick Hills attended the Eastern Region Awards Dinner

  1. ACCOUNTS

Income and Expenditure schedules were circulated.

Discussion took place whether to renew the NAJCC subscription in the light of problems finding judges for the Craftsmanship Awards.  It was agreed to pay it this year.

4.      NEWSLETTER

There have been no volunteers to guest edit the newsletter.  It was suggested by one member that greater use be made of the website for keeping members informed.

5.      NAA REPRESENTATIVES

Simon Wood has been appointed regional chair for CIAT.

The question of CPD events by other professionals was discussed.  It was clarified that CPD provided by RIBA is not the only way to gain CPD hours.

6.      CPD

Although poorly attended, the Law and JCT Updates seminar was hugely successful.

  1. EXHIBITION AND POSTER

David Ford and John Clarke will endeavour to put an exhibition together in time for the Norwich Lecture.

8.      NORWICH LECTURE

Robin Nicholson of Edward Cullinan will speak at the Lecture on Tuesday 24th October.  All are invited to drinks at the Sainsbury Centre afterwards and will gain free entry into the Francis Bacon exhibition.

9.      ARCHITECTURE IN SCHOOLS

Roy Payne is happy to organise this event again and will shortly be seeking volunteers.

10. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

The future of the Craftsmanship Awards is in jeopardy if judges cannot be found.  It was suggested a recently retired architect be approached directly and he/she will mentor a post Part 3 architect through the process.  The post Part 3 architect will gain 20 hours CPD.

The idea of a Norwich and Norfolk Forum was discussed and it was felt that to move the NAA meetings away from an events committee to a discussion group for architects could be the way forward.  Members were asked to bring their thoughts and ideas to the next meeting.

11. DATE OF NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Monday 13th November at the offices of LSI Architects LLP at 4.30 pm.
