Notes from NAA Council Meeting held on the 8th of December 2003

  1. Present
    Nine members of Council were present
  1. Minutes of the Last Meeting
    The Minutes of the meeting of 10th November were read and accepted as a true record.
  1. Vice-President
    The position of Vice President remains vacant.
  1. Structural Engineers Dinner
    There is to be an Institute of Structural Engineers Dinner in March 2004 when the principal guest is the Lord Mayor of Norwich and our President will be attending.
  1. Eastern Region
    Chris Heuvel will be attending the December Regional Council meeting at which he will be reporting on the views of this Council in the debate on the future of the profession.
  1. Financial Report
    An Income and Expenditure schedule was distributed.  Chris Heuvel was asked to bring a budget to the January meeting. With the possibility of the grants from Region being cut or withdrawn, ways of increasing the income of the NAA were discussed, and it was agreed that 2 or 3 moneymaking events should be held each year.
  1. Report
    David Thompson reported on the Quality Panel meeting and the Liveable City Advisory Committee.
  1. Architecture in Schools
    Six schools have been chosen to participate in the Architecture in Schools Project. Five architects have so far come forward to partner these schools.  The exhibition of the venture will be at the Forum on 24th April 2004.
  1. Norwich Lecture
    Norwich Lecture, this year was given by Julia Barfield of Marks Barfield Architects, designer of the London Eye and many exciting new projects. Thanks were given to David Thompson for organising the Norwich Lecture, Joyce Griffin of the UEA and Flicky Ridel who publicised the event so successfully.
  1. NAA Exhibition
    There has been very little response to the request for material for the exhibition and without fresh material David Ford has been unable to make any further progress.
  1. Next Meeting
    The next meeting will be held on Monday 12th January 2004 at LSI Architects, 23A Cattle Market Street, Norwich.
