NORFOLK ASSOCIATION OF ARCHITECTS

REPORT OF THE MEETING ON MONDAY 10th May 2004

 

  1. PRESENT

There were six members present.

 

  1. PREVIOUS MINUTES

Minutes of the meeting dated 19th April were accepted as a true record.

 

  1. MATTERS ARISING

A letter has been drafted to Carters asking for increased sponsorship for the Norwich Lecture.

 

  1. CORRESPONDENCE

A letter of thanks has been received from City College for NAA prize.

 

A letter from AABC has been received advising that architects undertaking work for English Heritage need to become members of AABC.

 

All other correspondence relates to items in these minutes.

 

  1. PRESIDENT’S DIARY

Tony Cleary introduced Nick Hills, the new vice president of the NAA.

 

  1. REGIONAL COUNCIL

Tony Cleary and Chris Heuvel have attended a Regional Council meeting.  Bas Dixon from RIBA attended to explain the pension fund deficit.  It is not proposed that grants to branches be cut but money, which, in the past has been available to fund various projects, may not be available in the future.  The subject of sponsorship was discussed.

Income and Expenditure Account schedules were distributed

 

  1. NEWSLETTER

Artwork is all prepared and the editor is waiting for articles.

 

  1. NAA REPRESENTATIVES

NFCI will be holding their AGM on Thursday 10th May at 6.15 at the King of Hearts.

 

The Structural Engineers will be hosting a guest evening at the Chapelfield Development on 7th June.  This is fully booked and there is already a reserve list.

 

  1. NORWICH MARKET PLACE

LSI Architects have been appointed architects for this project.  Stallholders will be canvassed for their views on the refurbishment.

 

  1. EXHIBITION

Nothing to report.

 

  1. AGM

Wednesday 12th May at the King of Hearts – 7 p.m.

Lucy Pedlar of the Green Register will be giving a talk.

There is a band and refreshments.

It was not possible to get sponsorship for the AGM due to lack of time.

 

  1. NORWICH LECTURE

Arrangements for the 2004 Lecture are being made.

 

  1. ARCHITECTURE WEEK – 18th to 22nd June 2004

Eastern Region are organising a guided walk around Norwich on 26th June starting at the Forum at 2.30 p.m.  Contact: Norwich Tourist Information 01603 727927.  They are also arranging an architecture workshop for school children on 22nd June.  It is hoped this will include a tour of the BBC Look East studio.  Contact RIBA East on 01223 566285.

 

The Forum and the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts: Compared and Contrasted by Matthew Wood of Conran and Partners on 22nd June at 6.30.  Contact RIBA East: 01223 566285.

 

NAA are organising a tour around the County Archive Centre on 21st June 2004.  The tours start at 10 am, 12 am and 3 pm.  Contact the Norfolk Archive Centre on 01603 222654.

 

  1. ARCHITECTURE IN SCHOOLS

The exhibition in the Forum on Saturday 24th April was very interesting.  A letter has been received from Mike Hodgkinson thanking the NAA for their part in the project.  Thanks were given to Roy Payne for organising this on behalf of the NAA as well as the six architects who took part.

 

  1. NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Monday 14th June.
