NORFOLK ASSOCIATION OF ARCHITECTS

REPORT OF THE MEETING ON MONDAY 14th NOVEMBER 2005

 

  1. PRESENT

There were thirteen members present.

The President welcomed Gabi Feingold of Terra Firma (London) Limited and Rachel Moulton, an RIBA Student, to the meeting.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE

A response has been received from Region about the lack of attendance at 2005 Architecture Week events.

 

Any members wishing to join the Validation Panel should contact Stephanie Beasley-Suffolk at Portland Place.

 

  1. ACCOUNTS

Income and Expenditure schedules were distributed. 

 

Cutting out the flowers for the stage and the Dinner at the UEA will reduce costs for the 2005 lecture.  Carters have agreed to sponsor the 2006 lecture to the tune of £2000.

 

With effect from 01.01.06, NAA will no longer be permitted to charge or collect VAT.

 

4.      NEWSLETTER

The autumn issue is being prepared and will be ready for distribution by the end of November.

 

5.      REGIONAL COUNCIL

David Thompson asked for member’s views on the idea of Jack Pringle submitting a formal proposal to Government that a Regulatory Reform Order be introduced to restrict ARB’s activities.  All members are asked to voice their opinions to Roger Shrimpton at rroconsultation@inst.riba.org and more information can be found on http://www.riba.org/go/RIBA/News/Press_5026.html

 

6.      CPD

Details for the Carbon Emissions Seminar have been circulated.

Other suggestions for CPD events were CDM Regulations and the New Planning Act.

 

  1. EXHIBITION AND POSTER

The exhibition will be taken to Swaffham.

                                                                                         

8.      NORWICH LECTURE

This was a very successful event.  Steps are being taken to secure a speaker for next year’s lecture.

 

9.      VACANCIES

There is still a vacancy for Hon Secretary.  Rachel Moulton has agreed to become the Student Representative and Gabi Feingold has agreed to become a member of Council filling the place vacated by John Clarke when he took on the role of Vice President.

 

10. CRAFTSMANSHIP AWARDS

John Clarke has agreed to Chair the judging panel and will be assisted by Gareth Hughes, Colin Lake and a Clerk of Works.  The 2006 Awards will be presented at the NAJCC Supper on 24th April at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel.

 

11. NFCI

Future NFCI events are as follows:

The River Gateway to Norwich – 13th December at King of Hearts at 7 pm

Quiz and Food – 12th January – venue to be confirmed

Annual Property Dinner – 9th February at Carrow Road

 

12. ARCHITECTURE IN SCHOOLS

Roy Payne needs two more Architects for this project.  Schools are yet to be announced.

 

13. DATE OF NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Monday 12th December.
